Fun Day Sunday June 6th

Joan’s Fun Day was a great success, and enjoyed by all, especially the children who had a great time fishing for ducks in the pond and having their faces painted. All money raised will go to choir funds.

Accompanist

We have said goodbye to David Smith who has been our accompanist for nearly a year, and we welcome Michael Barrett. So a big thank you to David, and a warm welcome to Michael.

Spring Songs, our concert on Saturday 17th April, supported the charity Winston’s Wish. The concert was a great success and we enjoyed singing in Emmanuel Church, Leckhampton. The choir sang a varied selection of songs, and finished up with a concert version of “Oliver” which the audience thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated.

We also had a treat from our guest performers, baritone John Qualtrough and clarinettist Lesley Crompton, who delighted choir and audience alike with two lovely songs by Louis Spohr. In the second half John entertained us with a Music Hall ballad “The Bearded Lady”, (ably assisted by his wife and a member of the choir), which got everybody laughing!

Our compere Belle was also in fine form with a wonderful selection of very amusing anecdotes.

Our next concert will be our Christmas Concert at St Andrews Church, Montpellier on Saturday 11th December.

Workshop and Masterclass with Maria Jagusz, Saturday 30th January 2010

Christmas Magic - our Christmas Concert at St Andrews Church, Montpellier

Supporting County Community Projects

Saturday 12th December 2009

This was a truly magical occasion. The choir sang a selection of Christmas carols and songs, and  our guest soloists delighted everyone with their wonderful playing. Pianist Rosie Breckon gave us Mozart, Scarlatti, Liszt and Chopin, and electrified and enchanted choir and audience alike. So, too, did violinists Gerry and Gill Hopkin, who played the Pastorelle from Corelli’s Christmas Concerto and also accompanied the choir in several of their songs, including ‘Mary’s Boy Child’ and Elgar’s ‘The Snow’. Another highlight was the lovely singing of our conductor’s five grandchildren, who sang the first verse of ‘ Away in a Manger’ so beautifully. The audience enjoyed singing several carols, and also joined the choir at the end of the evening for ‘I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas’.

Morgan Motor Company Centenary

Sunday 2nd August 2009

Gotherington Singers were honoured to be asked to sing at the Morgan Motor Company Centenary celebrations at Cheltenham Racecourse. Luckily the sun shone all day, and we all had a most enjoyable time.

We rehearsed in the morning, where we had time to get used to the stage and all the microphones and cables, and opened the evening concert with a selection from our lighter repertoire including a concert version of Les Miserables, where we were joined by baritone John Qualtrough.

Our performance was much appreciated by the large audience who were picnicking on the grass and enjoying the warm evening sunshine. After we had finished singing we joined the audience to listen to the English Symphony Orchestra and beautiful soprano Natasha Marsh who were absolutely fantastic.

The evening ended with a magnificent firework display. We were delighted to have been part of the whole wonderful occasion.
