Jane Ward Watts GRSM (Hons.) ARCM ALCM PGCE

The choir is honoured and delighted that Jane has agreed to become our Musical Director, as we know what a fantastically busy schedule she has.

She is a graduate of the Royal Schools of Music, an Associate of the Royal College of Music and the London College of Music (in Piano Accompaniment and Performing) and an examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music [ABRSM] examining all instruments and voices at Grades 1-8.

She taught at all levels at an independent school in Surrey in the 1980s, and went on to join the BBC, where she spent 20 years working initially as a Music Librarian and then as a Music Producer for Radio 2. During this time she was responsible for Radio 2 programmes ranging in content from Brass Band music, through genres such as a capella music, Japanese Music, Folk and the work of Music For Youth, through to magazine programmes with presenters who included Pam Ayres and Matthew Kelly. She later worked on BBC 1 TV as a Director/Vision-Mixer for a range of programmes which included Midlands Today and the Politics Show.

Jane teaches piano and theory and also runs other choirs including Maggie’s Choir, Charlton Kings Junior School Choir and the ladies' community choir "Word of Mouth". As if this is not enough she also accompanies Cheltenham Choral Society and the Silurian Choir in Tewkesbury, and has been working with Balcarras School since 2011, teaching and supporting GCSE and A level students and directing the school choir, staff choir and orchestra. She is currently working as the Musical Director of Balcarras Schools mammoth(!) production of Beauty & The Beast, the performances of which will take place in early December 2015.

She lives in Charlton Kings with her husband and two sons, who she does manage to meet up with from time to time!
