Joy to the World

Gotherington Singers Christmas Concert 2015, with MD Jane Ward Watts
Friday, 18 December 2015

This was our first concert with Jane Ward Watts as our Musical Director, and what a concert it was! A delighted audience went home afterwards with lovely Christmas music ringing in their ears, and full of mince pies and mulled fruit cup. The programme consisted of carols and Christmas songs old and new and the faces of choir and audience alike reflected their joy in the music. We were especially delighted to have flautist Siobhan Cosgrove as a soloist... Siobhan is principal flute with the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra and she treated us to some wonderful seasonal jazzy music as well as accompanying us in several of our songs. We were also thrilled to have another guest, our accompanist Rachel Hobby! Rachel is a violinist as well as a pianist, and we all loved her wonderful playing of Mozart and Brahms. Another delight was "Away in a Manger". This was an a capella arrangement by Jane herself, and we invited the children in the audience to join in - which they did with great enthusiasm! They received a lot of well - deserved applause! And our final song, "The Christmas Tree Feud", complete with tinsel Christmas trees, was a real show-stopper! So our thanks go to Jane Ward Watts, who in spite of her fantastically busy schedule has agreed to join us. We now look forward to our next concert in April, and to many more successful concerts in the future.
