St George's Day Concert, April 2016

Gotherington Singers St George's Day Concert 2016, St Nicolas Church, Swindon La
Saturday, 23 April 2016

Our St George's Day Spring Concert attracted a sell-out audience, and what a wonderful evening it was! St Nicolas is a lovely light and airy modern church with great acoustics, and we all really enjoyed our first concert in this lovely venue. Our programme was a celebration of English music and song, from Elgar through to musical theatre via Gilbert and Sullivan, ending with John Rutter's 'The Lord Bless You and Keep You'. Jane Ward Watts, our Musical director, inspired us as always and kept us in order, and Rachel Hobby, our accompanist, supported us in great style. Our guest, Carol Axford, treated us to some wonderful harmonica playing, accompanied by Dr Keith Mead. We also had a percussion section this year! Our two young drummers, Alex Ferrari and Yacob Reyneke, brought our medley from Oliver and the fun item 'This Old Man' to life with some terrific drumming! The audience also did their bit, singing 'Jerusalem' with great gusto , accompanied on the organ by Jerry Spence. So a big thank you to all concerned for a truly wonderful concert.
