Gotherington Singers Gala Concert May 2017, Princess Hall, Cheltenham
Sunday, 14 May 2017

What a fantastic concert last Friday evening, and what a wonderful way to celebrate our 50th Anniversary! The Princess Hall was full, and we celebrated in style with all our friends. We were also delighted to welcome the Mayor, Councillor Chris Ryder. Thanks go to all our wonderful soloists, baritone John Qualtrough who was also our compere for the occasion, harmonica player Carol Axford with her accompanist Lee Axford, the Charlton Kings Junior School Choir, the Gloucester Excelsior Band, and last but not least the Crompton Family Musicians, Lesley, Kodey, Lola, Annabelle, and Michaela. And of course we also thank our wonderful Musical Director Jane Ward Watts, and our equally wonderful accompanist Rachel Hobby! The concert included the first performance of Love and Go On, composed by Ben Sawyer, and commissioned by the choir in memory of long time choir member Barbara Murrell. We were also pleased to welcome Gwyn Arch, choir patron for many years now, and the choir performed one of Gwyn’s own compositions, a beautiful arrangement of ‘The Olive Tree’. The audience also joined in the singing of Janie Mama and When I’m 64! The evening ended with the choir singing ‘Together Wherever We Go’ from the musical Gypsy, and refreshments included celebratory glasses of prosecco! Here’s to the next 50 years!
